Description: The suburb of Bushland Beach is one of Thuringowa’s most popular residential communities, only 15 minutes north of the city. Ocean Palms Resort provides accommodation and hotel facilties right on the beach, with one of the highlights being barramundi feeding. Low tide uncovers an old wooden shipwreck, a large expanse of beach and ponds filled with marine life to facinate both children and adults alike. The area is well serviced by the store, resort, park, barbeque facilities, playgrounds and boat ramp.
How to get there: Travel north along the Bruce Highway from Thuringowa. Turn right at the Bushland Beach turn off. Bushland Beach is approximately 19km from Thuringowa Central.

Saunders Beach

Description: The next suburb north of Bushland Beach is Saunders Beach. With over 6km of unspoilt beach to discover, take a long refreshing walk, drop a line in to fish, and claim a piece of paradise to yourself. Have lunch at the Café/Take-Away and Store, and take in the majestic beauty of the iconic old fig tree. The beautiful Saunders Beach Park offers the perfect location for picnics or barbeques, and even has playground facilities to entertain the kids. Stay on the beach at the Jollymosh Retreat House or at Saunders Beach Ocean View Units. A boat ramp is also available for those keen to try their luck at fishing.

How to get there: Travel north along the Bruce Highway from Thuringowa. Turn right at the Saunders Beach turn off, approximately 29km from Thuringowa Central.

Bluewater Park & Urban Forest and Fitness Trail

Description: Bluewater hosts a picturesque fresh water attraction popular with picnic goers, including barbeques, toilets, showers and play equipment. Access the creek via the Bluewater Store (near the bridge), or Bluewater Park. Bluewater Park is a designated limited free tent and vehicle camping area. Go to www.thuringowa.qld.gov.au/thuringowa/info/camping for more information on free camping . The Urban Forest is adjacent to Bluewater Park. It is a fitness trail over 800m long with 8 activity stations located along a pathway surrounded by over 7,000 trees. A boat ramp is also available off Bluewater Drive, via Jaloonda Road.
How to get there: Bluewater is approximately 28km north along the Bruce Highway from Thuringowa Central.
For the boat ramp – turn right at Bluewater Drive (800m before the creek). For the creek, turn right at the Store just after the bridge. For the Park and Urban Forest, turn left at Forestry Road 340m past the bridge.

Toolakea Beach

Description: For a peaceful experience on yet another of Thuringowa’s gorgeous beaches, visit Toolakea Beach for a picnic lunch, or fish from the beach. This beach is also very quiet – perfect for birdwatchers or for those seeking a romantic and secluded coastal getaway.
How to get there: Travel north along the Bruce Highway from Thuringowa. Turn right at the Toolakea Beach turn off. Toolakea Beach is approximately 33km from Thuringowa Central.

Toomulla Beach

Description: Somewhat more isolated, Toomulla Beach is great for birdwatchers. It also boasts a boat ramp and is a great camping spot. How to get there: Travel North along the Bruce Highway from Thuringowa. Turn right at the Toomulla Beach turn off. Toomulla Beach is approximately 42km from Thuringowa Central.

Rollingstone, Vincent "Bushy" Parker Park and Rollingstone Beach

Description: Rollingstone’s Vincent "Bushy" Parker Park is a designated limited free tent and vehicle camping area. It is a popular spot with an attractive freshwater creek swimming area next to the park. Visit www.thuringowa.qld.gov.au/thuringowa/info/camping for more information on free camping . Regular community markets are also held here, on the first Saturday of each month from April to September from 8am to 12noon. Rollingstone also boasts a Historic Museum, the restored Rollingstone Railway Station filled with historical mementos of the area, as well as a network of interpretive historic signage. Contact the Rollingstone Historical Society for more information on the history of the area and the markets 07 4770 7466. Just a little further north on the Highway, turn down Hencamp Creek Road for a stay at the award-winning Big 4 Rollingstone Beach Caravan Resort.
How to get there: Rollingstone is a small community approximately 51km north of Thuringowa Central on the Bruce Highway.
Opening Hours: "Bushy" Parker Park is open all hours. Phone ahead for the museum.

Balgal Beach

Description: Balgal Beach is a popular day and overnight trip destination for locals and tourists alike. Just a few minutes from Rollingstone, Balgal Beach features a stinger enclosure, which is installed and patrolled from November to May. An excellent boat ramp facility with easy access to the Palm Island group is also available. Balgal Beach boasts a superb sand foreshore as well as a wide creek mouth that is a renowned beach and river fishing location. Other activities include visiting the ANZAC memorial, viewing the interpretive historic signage, having a picnic and barbeque at the park, bird watching, fishing or playing golf and lawn bowls at the Mystic Sands Golf & Country Club. On the first Sunday of every month the Balgal Beach Boating and Leisure Club hosts a fish barbeque from 5pm at the Rollingstone Community Hall. There is also a licensed café, the Fisherman’s Landing Kiosk, which stocks ice, bait, tackle & groceries. Accommodation is available at the Balgal Beach Holiday Units, Studio 26 or Balgal Station Bed & Breakfast Retreat. Council also has two designated camping areas located at Balgal Beach. How to get there: Balgal Beach is a small community approximately 53km north of Thuringowa Central. Turn right just before Rollingstone Creek.
