Description: Riverway combines recreation and sport with culture and entertainment, running 11 kilometres along the Ross River from Black Weir to the Dam. Riverway opens up the river for greater access for both residents and visitors, while still protecting and enhancing its natural beauty.
The first stage at Pioneer Park opened in July 2006, and includes the Riverway Arts Centre, 4000 square metres of swimming lagoons, picnic areas with barbeques, a village spine walkway which will host markets and festival activities, an amphitheatre formed by the grassed roof of the Arts Centre, car parks, C-Bar Restaurant, and a Village Boulevard which is the shady laneway entrance to Riverway. The lagoons provide a wonderful setting for performances in the Arts Centre as well as outdoor concerts in the grassed amphitheatre. Thuringowa’s Pinnacles Gallery is housed in the Riverway Arts Centre, offering changing contemporary exhibitions for public viewing.
Other quality restaurants, cafes and shops are part of the commercial precinct planned for construction at Riverway in 2007. A national-standard cricket and AFL sports facility is set to open in December 2007.
How to get there: Riverway is diagonally opposite Willows Shoppingtown, at Pioneer Park. Riverway follows the Ross River from Black Weir to Lake Ross in Kelso.
Opening Hours:
Lagoons (lifeguard hours) - April to September: Monday to Sunday 10am-6pm
October to March: Monday to Friday: 10am-7pm. Weekends, public & school holidays: 9am-8pm.
Arts Centre Box Office - Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm.
Pinnacles Gallery - Wed, Thurs & Fri 11am - 7pm, Sat 10am - 6pm, Sun 11am - 2pm.
C-Bar - 7am to 10pm seven days a week.
Costs:
Swimming Lagoons and Pinnacles Gallery are free.
Performances at the Arts Centre will incur an entry fee.

Description: The Riverway Arts Centre features a 380-seat flexible performance space doubling as a function room, the Pinnacles Art Gallery, rehearsal space, meeting room and working spaces for resident art groups.
The Pinnacles Gallery is a contemporary art gallery showcasing all aspects of visual arts for the community and featuring local, state and national artists in exhibitions across all themes and media.
How to get there: The Riverway Arts Centre is located at Pioneer Park, Riverway - diagonally opposite to Willows Shopping Centre, Thuringowa Central.
Opening Hours:
Pinnacles Gallery - Wed, Thurs & Fri 11am - 7pm, Sat 10am - 6pm, Sun 11am - 2pm.
Arts Centre Box Office - Monday - Friday, 11am - 5pm. Saturdays, 11am - 2pm. The Arts Bos Office is also open 1 hour prior to performances.

Ross River

Description: The Ross River is fast becoming Thuringowa's recreational centrepiece, hosting a wide range of sporting and leisure activities. Riverwalk, a 3 metre wide pathway which overlooks the beautiful Ross River, runs along the river and provides numerous opportunities to enjoy its natural beauty. The Riverway Loam Island and Pioneer Park developments provide entertainment venues and fishing spots. Skiing and wakeboarding are popular activities on the water. Ross River also offers some excellent bird watching opportunities, particularly from Pioneer Park, Loam Island, Apex Park and Dam Park.
How to get there: The River parallels Riverway Drive. It is easily accessible from Pioneer Park, which has nearby parking facilities.

Lake Ross

Address: Riverway Drive, Kelso.
Description: Owned by NQ Water, Lake Ross stores over 200,000 million litres of water and supplies up to 80% of the region’s potable water supply. The dam wall stretches 8.3 km across the Ross River floodplain (longest in the Southern Hemisphere) providing an additional flood mitigation benefit to the downstream community. In recognition of its habitat values, Lake Ross is listed as a Wetland of National Significance. The extensive shallow margins of the lake provide habitat for a diversity of water birds. The lake is also surrounded by thousands of hectares of unspoilt open savannah teeming with wildlife. Over 220 species of bird have been recorded on or around the lake to date.
How to get there: Follow Riverway Drive until you reach the Dam Park at the end of the road.
Opening Hours: The dam wall is currently being upgraded, so access to Lake Ross and the dam wall is restricted until construction activities are completed in early 2008. Members of the public are reminded not to enter the construction site for safety reasons.
Costs: Dam Park, located immediately below the dam wall, is free, with ample parking, picnic and toilet facilities. Many birds can be seen along the Ross River, and the Townsville Region Bird Observers Club hosts early morning bird-watching walks generally on the 3rd Sunday of each month from this location (phone 07 4778 1945 for information).
Dam Park is free, however the lake is only accessible through the following approved commercial operators, more information is available under the "Tours" section of this website:

Description: The newly redeveloped Thuringowa Library offers a range of facilities for locals and visitors alike. A huge range of books, including the volumes on the rich local history of the area are available, and internet access is also provided. The library often hosts a number of local art exhibitions, and also has a new cafe, so you can enjoy cappuccino and cake while you curl up with a book or enjoy the local arts. The Thuringowa Library is a modern facility that can be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.
