Picnicking and Swimming in Thuringowa
Riverway

Riverway is the pride and joy of Thuringowa Central. The Pioneer Park node is the first stage of what will eventually be the redevelopment of 11km of bank along the majestic Ross River. This ultra modern facility combines recreation and sport with culture and entertainment. Riverway opens up the Ross River for greater access for both residents and visitors, while still protecting and enhancing its natural beauty.
A swimmers delight, Riverway boasts two huge swimming lagoons, with a combined surface area of over 400 square meters. The lagoons caters for the competitive swimmer with an 80 metre lap pool, and also those simply seeking to escape the tropical summer heat, with deeper areas for adults and shallow children's play areas.
The gardens and parkland surrounding Riverway provide high quality picnic and barbeque facilities. Other highlights of Riverway include the Riverway Arts Centre and performance space, sports ovals, playgrounds, the QNI Eco-Active Centre, and Tony Ireland Stadium. The Stadium is set to open in December this year, and will provide world-class AFL and cricket sporting facilities. Riverway really is the perfect place for family fun!
Dan Gleeson Gardens

Dan Gleeson Gardens is a beautiful park reserve located on Thuringowa Drive. This extensive parkland has facilities such as picnic tables, barbecues, playgrounds and public toilets readily available. The gardens are a popular day use area, and are also used frequently as a wedding venue, due to its natural beauty. The perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of busy Thuringowa City, Dan Gleeson Gardens is ideal for picnics and barbeques.
Apex Park
Apex Park is located approximately 3km north of Pioneer Park along Riverway Drive. Apex Park has basic picnic and barbecue facilities available, and will soon be redeveloped as part of the Riverway Project.
Ross Park
Located at the base of the Ross River Dam is Ross Park. Tourists and families can enjoy barbecues and picnics and view the dam. The park will eventually be upgraded and new facilities installed as part of the Riverway project – the dam will be the final link in the 11km stretch.
