Balgal Beach Designated Camping Area

Description: Balgal Beach offers free designated vehicle and tent camping reserves for the public to make use of. Vehicle camping is available in Tooth Street, Balgal Beach, and is limited to the car park area for a maximum stay of 48 hours. Tent camping, including the foreshore, is available at the Justin Street reserve as well as the Tooth Street reserve, and is limited to a maximum stay of 48 hours. Pets are allowed at Thuringowa City Council's designated camping reserves (unless otherwise signed), however, they must be kept on a leash at all times.

Council officers routinely visit camping areas to check visitors’ length of stay, and to ensure they abide by Council policies. Failure to comply with Council policies will result in eviction and possible fines. Big Crystal Creek Camping and Day Use Area

Big Crystal Creek is a beautiful freshwater swimming hole

Book OnlineDescription: Big Crystal Creek camping and day use area lies at the foot of the Paluma Range, just 3km off the Bruce Highway at Mutarnee. The area is a popular destination for both locals and visitors, and boasts a large freshwater swimming lagoon set against a tranquil bush setting. Toilet facilities, picnic tables and barbeques are all available for use. Camping fees do apply, and it is advisable to book your camping site online in advance. Please contact Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service or the Environmental Protection Agency, as per the contact details below:

Address: Travel north along the Bruce Highway from Thuringowa. Turn left at the Paluma turn-off (Barrett Road) approximately 70km from Townsville/Thuringowa (and 5km north of the Mount Spec Ewan Road turn-off). Turn right onto Spiegelhauer Road after 1.5km.

Bluewater Designated Camping Area

Description: Bluewater Park, located off the Bruce Highway at Bluewater, offers a designated free vehicle and tent camping area for the public to make use of. Twenty vehicle camping sites are available for a maximum length of stay of 24 hours, and tent camping is also permitted for a maximum length of stay of 24 hours. Pets are allowed at Thuringowa City Council's designated camping reserves (unless otherwise signed), however, they must be kept on a leash at all times.

Lake Paluma Camping and Day Use Area

Book OnlineDescription: Lake Paluma camping and day use area is nestled among World Heritage Listed Wet Tropics Rainforest, and is the perfect location for camping and ‘getting back to nature’. This picturesque mountaintop lake is ideal for swimming and non-motorised recreational activities, and features modern, environmentally friendly camping facilities. Toilets, gas barbecues, picnic tables, fireplaces (bring your own firewood) and boat launching facilities are all available. All rubbish must be taken with you when you leave the camping area.

Although the camping area is quite spacious, local advice should be sought before attempting to tow a caravan or other such vehicle up the steep Paluma Range. Camping fees apply, and it is advisable to book your camping sites in advance, particularly during busier time of the year such as school holidays. Description: Rollingstone Park, also know as Vincent “Bushy” Parker Park, offers a designated free vehicle camping area available for the public to make use of. There are 30 un-powered sites available, with a maximum length of stay of 48 hours. Pets are allowed at Thuringowa City Council's designated camping reserves (unless otherwise signed), however, they must be kept on a leash at all times.

Description: The northern end of the Saunders Beach Esplanade offers a free designated vehicle camping reserve, available for the public to make use of. Vehicles are able to camp in the reserve for a maximum length of 24 hours. Pets are allowed at Thuringowa City Council's designated camping reserves (unless otherwise signed), however, they must be kept on a leash at all times.

The reserve is located on Herald Street, Toomulla Beach, and has a maximum length of stay of 48 hours.
